How My Gammie’s came to Vegan Baking

My Gammie’s started its journey solely in relation to being FreeFrom the 14 main allergens. As a given, eggs, milk, crustaceans, molluscs and fish were out. We never even thought of including meat or other meat related items into our product range as we were concentrating on providing baked items like bread and cakes. Vegan baking was a by-product of our business decision and we are really pleased how it all worked out.

Vegan baking for us is easy. The only item that we used in the past that is not vegan is honey. In fact, we did not know that honey is a non-vegan item and we were ‘educated’ through our networking and research. My Gammie’s does not have to source special ingredients to be vegan friendly; it already is by default and we plan to continue to be so.

We have now learnt more about vegan food through our journey. Some of the challenges of being a vegan is having a balance in nutrients and availability of variety when eating out. My Gammie’s plan in helping out for the coming year is to look at the nutritional balance of its products so it can provide variety that includes added nutritional ingredients.
