My Gammie’s Dawning Motivation

About My Gammie’s

The origin of My Gammie’s is from Ly’ora Gooden-Toney. Her struggles with food limitations and the lifestyle adjustments made to lower safety risks during meal times and when out and about became the motivation that manifested My Gammie’s.

Dairy intolerance
At 4 months old her dairy intolerance was established during breastfeeding having a dramatic effect on her skin eczema symptoms resulting in raw weeping cheeks and blood stained sheets from scratching during sleep.

Peanut Allergy
At the age of 1, Ly’ora violently reacted to a packet of snacks whilst shopping with her Gammie (grandma). She bit into one of the snacks and oddly let the bag fall to the floor. She started coughing as though food was uncomfortably caught at the back of her throat and minutes late she unexpectedly expelled bile through her mouth and nose. At this point her symptoms rapidly revealed themselves one after another. She was going into anaphylactic shock (a sever allergic reaction). Ly’ora begun wheezing, her skin turned red, in-between her fingers swelled up and she began itching everywhere. Thankfully she made it to hospital on time, and thus, a fatal peanut allergy was established.

Gluten intolerance
At 3 years old, Ly’ora had been experiencing violent coughing every single night for a year and a half of together with daily respiratory issues that were mildly alleviated by her asthma pump. To avoid regular hospital visits, Ly’ora was not able to run or jump as typical children do. Following a lot of research, we excluded gluten totally from her diet and the result was drastic. Only two days with no gluten from her diet, Ly’ora slept through the night without a cough.

Egg intolerance
A month or two after establishing Ly’ora’s gluten intolerance, we noticed that she would often have a mild cough throughout the day. Egg was removed from her diet to observe any changes and Ly’ora’s cough disappeared entirely.

Now an active child, Ly’ora has her food sensitivities, eczema and asthma monitored. Her asthma symptoms tend to flare when recovering from general colds instead of as a result of what she eats. Her eczema symptom is now only present on her hand, it never weeps and itching is much more controlled. As recommended by her GP Ly’ora always travels with an Epipen, Piriton syrup and an asthma pump. Ly’ora does not eat from restaurants due to previous food reaction in such places where one cannot guarantee that food is not contaminated. The risk is not worth taking, hence the food we sell at My Gammie’s are what have been cooked/baked for Ly’ora.
